A project that has made a big difference for local salmon and other migrating fish - the Clover Creek Fish Ladders deserve to be celebrated.

In March, Shasta Land Trust held a Wildways event at City of Redding's newest nature preserve, Oregon Gulch.  This very popular event helped showcase the value that nature and urban open spaces provide for families and community in Redding and Shasta County.

Through our Wildways Series we work with local community members to provide fun educational experiences for friends, family and supporters all while raising funds for the conservation of beautiful lands in Shasta County. Preserve the Local Harvest was one of those events.

Partial Solar Eclipse Viewing Parties in our Area

People from all over the country are anticipating the big solar eclipse on Monday. Rather than catching this phenomena from an office window or outside your front door, here are two fun places to go for a viewing party in our area! 

The Monarch Butterfly

The Boisclaires in Northern California have spent the last couple of years searching for Monarch caterpillars. Their goal is to help them become full grown butterflies within the safety of their home and eventually be released back into the wild. We were lucky enough to be invited over to learn the secrets of the majestic Monarchs and how we can help this species for future generations.

This week, Earth is entering a stream of debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle, known as the annual Perseid meteor shower. grain-like specks of debris are hitting the top of Earth's atmosphere at a high rate and burning up in the night sky, producing a spray of shooting stars from the constellation Perseus. The best time to watch is early morning August 12-13 where star gazers can expect to see up to 40-60 meteors an hour.

Kristine Sheltrown started with Shasta Land Trust in July of 2017. A new resident to the beautiful state of California Kristine comes to us from Dayton Ohio where she was born and raised. Kristine is a Communications graduate from the University of Toledo.
