Learn about the incredible bird species seen along our Sacramento River property with a walking bird tour led by the Shasta Birding Society. Kids will learn tips to ID birds and will also enjoy a fun art activity with the Spring Rivers Foundation. You’ll even get a chance to see and learn about a variety of unique geckos, lizards, and other reptilian critters!
 
Binoculars will be available to borrow from the Shasta Birding Society. Plus, snacks and beverages will be provided for our young explorers.

Enjoy the beautiful fall scenery with a bike tour of the protected Cow Creek Ranch. Hop on your mountain bike and enjoy the terrain of this conserved family cattle ranch with a 4-mile ride through oak woodlands, along cattle trails, and through scenic pastures. Come visit the Shasta Land Trust for a family-friendly screening of the 2012 film, The Lorax. Join Jay & Terri Thesken and Dave & Judy Bush for a field trip to Lassen Volcanic National Park to explore and search for the elusive American Pika! Gather first for a delicious picnic lunch overlooking scenic Lake Helen and hear Mike Magnuson, Lassen Park biologist, give a brief lecture on the Park’s pika program “Pikas in Peril” and recent vaccination efforts. After lunch, drive to several park locations and walk for about ½ mile to a promising pika site, in hopes of catching a glimpse of these cute alpine members of the rabbit family.
